Kindergarten Art-

Self-Portraits- Kindergartners drew their self-portraits  while  looking into a mirror. Then using watercolor inks, they painted their faces inside of a patterned frame. They are learning about “Thoughtful Painting:”

  1. Paint slowly.
  2. Use light colors first
  3. Hold your brush the direction the line goes
  4. Paint a fence around the area you want to paint
  5. Keep your brush, water and hands clean
  6. Think before you paint!

Color Mixing-Students have experienced color mixing, in many different ways. First, by mixing the primary colors ( red, yellow, blue ) together on “paint chips” to create the secondary colors ( orange, violet, green ).  Then they watched a “Magic Show” and wrote about it in their  sketchbooks. Each student  made a “Color Mixing Book” by mixing paint with their hands. For example, they put one hand in the yellow paint, one hand in blue paint, then rubbed their hands together to make green.  They also mixed orange and violet. It’s always fun to see the look of surprise on their faces when the new color magically appears!
